Music in Electric Circle
20th August 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Brixton Chamber Orchestra (BCO) and Brixton BID present a Free Lunch-Hour Concert: Music in Electric Circle
Monday 20th August, 13:00 – 14:00, Electric Avenue
This lunchtime performance in Brixton, on Electric Circle in the iconic Electric Avenue market, will feature classics from the Brixton Chamber Orchestra.
The programme, curated and directed by BCO Director Matthew O’Keeffe, includes covers of popular music alongside classical compositions.
This hour-long event is a public music event for all.
The Brixton BID is continuously working to make Brixton a hub for culture, entertainment, and commerce, making Brixton better for our businesses, visitors and residents.
Brixton Chamber Orchestra
The Brixton Chamber Orchestra is a new, young ensemble from, of and for Brixton. They are classically trained and perform all sorts of styles, including covers of popular music.
They love collaborations (the less likely, the better!) and spring up in unexpected places. The orchestra is made of young professionals and talented local amateurs, playing side-by-side.
BCO want to encourage people to listen to classical music, and even learn to play an instrument. They work with music charities and schools in Lambeth.
In July 2018, they launched their first season, in Cressingham Gardens’ Rotunda, with a chamber concert. They have a Brahms and Elgar’s Cello Concerto at St Michael’s Arts Festival (Stockwell) on October 6th, and a collaboration with the Gospel Choir at Brixton SDA church on the 17th November.
Matthew O’Keeffe – Musical Director of the Brixton Chamber Orchestra
Matthew attended the Centre for Young Musicians in Morley College and started conducting when he was made musical director of his church choir at the age of 15. Matthew graduated from King’s College London with a first class music degree, and was awarded the Purcell Music Prize in 2016. He lives in Brixton and works as a professional singer and conductor. Matthew enjoys working in all musical genres: he also directs classical vocal group Scherzo, and Lunchbreak Opera, as well as composing and arranging music, and plays saxophone in a Swing Band.
